DOOLEY HAS BEEN FOUND AND IS AT HOME WITH BARBARA!!!!
There is a guestbook at the bottom of this page if you'd like to write something to Barbara and her family.
UPDATE February 2, 2012
We had an interesting day with the dog tracker and the scent hounds. First, there was another Dooley sighting today. Next, the dogs confirmed that the scent on the remains is not Dooley's. HOWEVER -- the scent hounds also indicated that the dog at the sighting spots is not Dooley. Now we're left scratching our heads. We're still moving ahead, because it's just so strange. Michele is on her way to pick up live traps from the county shelter. We'll get to the bottom of this mystery. Whatever is going on -- there is a sheltie out there that needs to be found!
UPDATE February 2, 2012
Today the dog crew visited the site where Dooley's remains were found and buried and confirmed that they are NOT Dooley's. We kind of figured it would be too random of a coincidence that there would be another Sheltie who looks just like Dooley wandering around that area, but it was still nice to get confirmation. A big shout out to Elizabeth at Office Max for donating the fliers that will be distributed to participants at the Cowboy Poetry Convention in Elko. And a big thanks to Mandy Morin for helping to coordinate that. You all are the best!
New Update February 1, 2012 I just got an update from the Find Dooley ground crew. THERE WAS ANOTHER DOOLEY SIGHTING TODAY!!! It seems like he is surfacing more and not going so deep into the back country. This will definitely make it easier to find him. We're discussing bringing back the professional dog tracker, and we found a place in Elko that sells live traps that are big enough for a 40 pound dog. We won't quit until he's found. In the meantime, if you live anywhere near the Battle Mountain/Elko region or know anyone who will be traveling that way, please share the flier below with them. Thanks again everyone for your prayers, well wishes and suggestions!
UPDATE February 1, 2012 The search is underway with a team of volunteers and search and rescue dogs. They just found a pile of fresh poop that they think may be Dooley's. It's so strange to have moved on & to now find us back in this place of hope, excitement and anxiety.
We learned that Dooley passed away on the day his human dad passed away. Now we're full of hope that Dooley will be found alive today on the day that his human sister gave birth to a son. Wouldn't that be a beautiful coincidence?
Congratulations Chelsea and Stephen. Their adorable, healthy child was just born @ 9 lbs 13 oz and 21 inches long. Today is a good day :-)
UPDATE! January 31, 2012 Well everyone, we're on one BIG roller coaster ride, and I invite you all to join us! So today a woman was driving by the crash site and saw a small Sheltie wandering around near there. She got out and tried to catch it, but it ran away. She drove to the nearby shelter and described the animal, where upon they showed her a picture of Dooley and she exclaimed, "That's the dog I saw!"
We then called the woman who found Dooley's remains and were told that only a white snout and a white paw were found. There was no collar or anything else discovered nearby. So it's entirely possible that some other poor, unfortunate creature met its fate out there in the desert, and Dooley may still be living out his grand adventure.
What this means, of course, is that the search is back on starting tomorrow!! If anyone in the Battle Mountain/Elko region is interested again in helping with the search and seeing if a happy ending is possible, please call Kurt at 801-557-8984. Spread the word!!
UA tragedy has occured to one of our Heartfelt family members. My heart and many other hearts are breaking for this wonderful family that adopted Dooley from Heartfelt Shelties.
For those of you on Facebook, here is a link to follow what happened to drastically change the lives of many. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Find-Dooley/220740094672572 For those of you that don't have Facebook I will try and construct a timeline from the Find Dooley page.
I have asked Chelsea (Brad and Barbara's daughter) if it was ok to post her email address and she said absolutely. I hope that my heartfelt family will send words of encouragement to the family. They need our prayers for the healing time ahead of them. Chelsea is within 2 weeks of delivering her second child. Chelsea's email is chelsbagley@yahoo.com
Here is a timeline of what happened to this wonderful family.
* Posted December 29, 2010 Dooley was in a rollover car accident with his family on December 27th and ran away from the scene between mile markers 248 and 249 on I-80, just past Battle Mountain, Nevada. He's a beloved pet, and his family is desperately searching for him.
Dooley is a Sheltie who is about 4.5 years old. He is brown and white with a little black and weighs approximately 40 lbs.
Please help us find Dooley!
* Posted December 29, 2010 The family was able to get a local search and rescue to donate some time tomorrow in a helicopter to search the area. Keep your fingers crossed!
*Posted December 31, 2011 Dooley is still missing. I'm going to try and contact the media in the Battle Mountain/Elko area when I arrive in Reno & see if we can get them to run stories.
*Posted January 2, 2012 The helicopter crew did not find Dooley, & the newspapers in those small towns have been closed for the holidays. But emails have been sent to them. Dooley has tags & a microchip should he be brought to a vet or shelter. Our next step is to look into the feasibility of bringing out a pet rescue expert with blood hounds. Not ready to give up!!
*Posted January 2, 2012 Hope! We found a professional lost dog tracker with scent dogs who will arrive on the scene tomorrow morning. I'll keep everyone posted!
*Posted January 3, 2012 Attention anyone who lives in the Battle Mountain region! The dog tracker, Lisa, did say she would like some volunteers tomorrow. She is meeting my nephew, Kurt, tomorrow at the Flying J between 9:00 & 9:30 am. If you can help, please call her at 207-939-0299. Thanks so much!
*Posted January 3, 2012 The power of Facebook: This morning we called an OfficeMax in Elko, Nevada, to arrange to have posters made of Dooley (Elko is about an hour away from the crash site). The printing person said she had read about Dooley on Facebook and offered us a discount and is expediting the posters. Awesome! Thanks Liz at OfficeMax, and thanks to all of you for spreading the word!
*Posted January 3, 2012 Dooley went about 2 miles from the crash and then headed up a ravine in the mountains. Two of the rescue dogs are hard on Dooley's trail. We're so excited with the progress. Everyone keep your fingers crossed!
*Posted January 3, 2012 The tracker found Dooley's footprints 4 miles from the crash. He went up and over a mountain into an area that is difficult to access. They're trying to figure access out right now.
*Posted January 4, 2012 Although Dooley is still yet to be found, we got some crucial insight today thanks to the dog tracker, Lisa. We learned that Dooley has been traveling in a fairly straight path due south of the crash site. For several reasons she explained why she thinks he's alive and uninjured. And she thinks he will eventually reach a road that is used by miners - many of whom have been made aware of Dooley's plight. But for now Dooley is in a vast area that is inaccessible to cover by motorized vehicle or foot, which is why the search came to an end. For now, the best thing is to arrange a search with horses, which will be our next endeavor. We will try to get more details tomorrow on the location of the area Dooley is in. Many thanks to everyone for your support and prayers. And a HUGE thank you to Shannon from Battle Mountain for assisting Lisa today and going above and beyond to help us get the word out! You're
awesome!

*Posted January 4, 2012 We've been working our networks today to find people to go to the area to do a search on horses. It's been difficult because Dooley's mom and dad are in the hospital and are too injured to search. One of their children is in Salt Lake City trying to keep their business afloat during all of this. Another child is here at the hospital managing her parents' care, and the other child is due to give birth to her second child any day, so they're not able to dedicate the time they would like. A few people have been able to take a day to donate, but most people are too tied to jobs and families to get away. It's been so frustrating. If anyone can help with a horse search, please let us know. We would REALLY appreciate it! Barbara is happy to be alive, but cries a lot for her lost puppy. We need to find Dooley!
*Posted January 5, 2012 Last I heard, a couple of people from Salt Lake City were headed out to the site this morning to continue the search. I haven't heard anything at this point, so I assume no news is no good news. I'm hoping to connect with them soon to see what happened. What this likely means is we'll be moving forward with the big search on Saturday. The Bagleys are so excited because they really feel that this weekend it will happen -- Dooley will be found and can come home to his family! For those of who you have so graciously volunteered to assist, please call or text Kurt at 801-557-8984. It may be best to text for now, as the family is dealing with Brad's declining condition in the ICU. Thanks so much everyone! I read all these posts to Barbara, and she gets so emotional and touched by how much everyone cares.

Here's an article about the accident:

Brad, Dooley's dad, just passed away in the ICU in Reno. This picture was taken of him with Dooley and Delaney a few days before the accident. RIP Brad Vombaur and Delaney -- we hope you are both running through the fields together now.
*Posted January 6, 2012 We need your help TOMORROW :) Saturday January 7th. Our friend shannon posted the following information on her facebook page about when and where the search crew will meet:
****ATTENTION DOOLEY'S SEARCH ARMY****We are going to meet Saturday morning at 0900 on the South side of I-80 at the west bound Exit 254 (Dunphy). Take west bound exit 254, turn left at the bottom of the ramp, go under the freeway straight ahead & park in the dirt pull out area. I am planning on getting signs made & put up tomorrow for reference. After we get an idea of people & resources, we are going to caravan north, back under I-80, turn right & follow the TS ranch road through a wire field gate. Beyond that gate will be a final staging area where search teams will be deployed into the surrounding foothills & flatlands. This is in a remote area that does not have services close. Please bring water & food for yourself & your animals (horses/tracking dogs). Please don't bring companion dogs. We don't want to add any dogs tracks that could possibly contaminate the area. Please bring a GPS (if you have one) & plan to carry it with you while searching. We will compile a master map of areas searched at the end of the day. THERE IS CELL SERVICE IN THE AREA SO BRING EM IF YOU HAVE ONE. The weather service is calling for snow showers Saturday morning, with a high of 42. IF it snows it will be minimal & IT WILL NOT STOP the search. Please dress & plan accordingly. Please bring as many folks/dogs/horses/ATVs (with riders) as you can convince to come. This will be the first time I have ever organized anything like this, so please be patient with me. The most important thing is to safely get eyes & boots on the ground (and back) as we can to find Dooley. I will have a new cell phone tomorrow & will put that number out once I have it so folks can contact me should they need to. We will be searching in an area owned by the TS Ranch, please respect their land & make sure we leave the area as we find it. Thanks so much for your help!! WE WILL FIND DOOLEY!!!!
Barbara will be headed to Battlemountain tomorrow to assist in the massive search for Dooley. She said on the phone to me that she will be there for however long it takes. Can anyone recommend a good hotel?
It is with deep sorrow to let you all know that Dooley was found, but was a victim to coyotes. This has been quite a rough day. But even though we don't get to bring Dooley home, the family will have closure and no longer has to worry and wonder. We owe a debt of gratitude to Shannon whose tireless efforts helped bring this search to an end. Shannon, you are an amazing person, and we love you! In the midst of all this heartbreak and suffering, all of your thoughts and concerns have lifted them and softened the blows. Thanks so much for your prayers, thoughts, and words of comfort. And thanks to all the angels, many of whom are complete strangers, who contributed time and money and emotional support. God speed to you all. We look forward to paying it forward and helping others who have lost their beloved pets.
Barbara, Dooley's mom, has spent the last couple of days making final arrangements for Brad in Reno and returning home to Salt Lake City. I can only imagine what it must have felt like to come home to an empty, quiet house. Fortunately, she's surrounded by many close friends and family members. For those of you who are interested in following the family's story and perhaps even donating to help cover the many costs incurred with their ordeal, please see the following link:

Thank you again for taking the time to reach out to Barbara and her family. Your comments have truly lifted her spirits.
*Posted January 10, 2012 Reposted from Barbara's comment below: My heart is truly broken. My body is broken. I need time to repair. I know that the three of them are watching over me in heaven and that they are all happy there together. To Shannon Sustacha, thank you so much for all your help to find my best buddy. It gives me comfort to know that he is at rest. If there is anything I can ever do for you, please let me know. There's no way that I could ever thank you enough. Donna, I will take you up on your offer for a puppy, but I will need some time to heal first. Thank you so much! To everyone who helped to look for Dooley, thank you for your time and effort. And to everyone who has supported and prayed for my family and I, thank you. I have never felt so loved. It warms my heart to know that I have a community of people surrounding me like you. I love you all and you are all forever in my heart. I will let you all know what I decide to name my new puppy in a couple months :)
